Avid collectors will also work on filling gaps in their focused collections. Some savvy art-glass lovers are also investors collecting to diversify their portfolios. A combination can become an excellent investment vehicle affording an additional ROI potential. enjoying beautiful display potential and value of a healthy monetary appreciation, while contemporaneously enjoying the high-quality medium’s striking beauty! often eclipses potential When considering this art form as a viable, quality investment vehicle, we will consider its potential for appreciation. That potential pivots on four cardinal qualities:1. RARITY (or supply), 2. DESIRABILITY to collectors (or demand), 3.CONDITION is the all-important physical element that if compromised will eliminate a piece (as we know, even minor damage makes a literal world of difference in current and future value)! So, the fragility of art glass and its inevitable vulnerability certainly contributes to the rarity factor, as a portion of investment-quality works inevitably become damaged, or destroyed. So, please carefully inspect what you are buying and protect what you own! The fourth, and most important, quality is AUTHENTICITY. Without that, nothing else matters! ~ Copyright © 2025 OnMyWatch ____________________________ Professionally packed, promptly shipped, and guaranteed to please! Brief Murano History The island of Murano near Venice has been producing glass since the thirteenth century – 1292. Having been banned from mainland Venice, for the threat of fire hazard, t he island 's glass furnaces first produced beads and mirrors, soon progressing to chandeliers and architectural stained glass for Italy’s hundreds of churches, chapels, and basilicas. Soon they widened their output to include pressed glass, tableware, and art glass. The surge in popularity of beautiful, high-quality decorative glass in the post-war boom, created a huge mid-20th-century expansion in demand and production on Murano. Notable designers include Flavio Poli, Archimede Seguso, Ricardo Licata, Gino Cenedese, Paolo Venini, Antonio Salviati, Dino Martens, Martinuzzi, Mandruzzato and Ercole and Angelo Barovier to name but a very few. The hardworking Italian glassblowers of Murano can truly be called the Godfathers of modern-day glass.
